2/8/11 Six tips to keep your health and fitness goal

I love the gym in Janaury!  Every January, all the new people arrive and take over all the equipment, fill up all the lockers, and ask a ton of questions. What used to take me an hour to do now takes at least an hour and a half. Mind you, I have built my life around fitness and education. It isn't the fact that the gym is now crowded that bothers me, it's the fact that in February it won't be anymore! Every year it's the same thing....start that New Years resolution on January 1, pack the gym to capacity for the first two weeks, and then completely disappear for the rest of the year.

Here are my ideas on how to keep motivated beyond the month of January:

1. Workout with a friend. Make it an appointment that is routine...3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 5:00 PM

2. Start slow and build

3. Get involved in the various activities some gyms offer. Variety will keep you interested

4. If you are unable to go, go as soon as you can. Too many days away will cause you to lose momentum

5. Keep a log of your exercise routine

6. Know what you are going to do before you get there. It will help you avoid wasting time when you are on a limited schedule
